Essential oils undeniably offer a multitude of benefits. However, due to the baby’s delicate skin, not all essential oils are safe. You should keep in mind different factors, like the baby’s age, the oil concentration, etc. before making a choice.

Here are some suggestions to help you choose safe essential oils for your baby.

Essential Oils for Babies

  • Avoid Giving Essential Oils Orally: Some essential oils are toxic in nature and can prove fatal to your baby if ingested orally. If your baby accidentally consumes any essential oil, immediately call up your medical practitioner. In case of signs of poisoning, rush to the nearest hospital.
  • Avoid Using Essential Oils in Concentrated Form: Even if you are a using an essential oil from an esteemed brand, make sure you dilute it before applying on your baby. No matter how superior the quality of the oil is, never use concentrated essential oil as it can cause skin irritation or burns. Concentrated essential oils are too strong for your baby’s sensitive skin. Massage the baby’s feet with essential oil. Avoid rubbing it on his chest, back, and the region around the nose.
  • Avoid Introducing More Than One Essential Oil At A Time: You should sparingly use the essential oils for babies and certainly not all at the same time. First, watch how your baby’s skin reacts to the oil. Give your baby some time to adjust to any new essential oil. Usually, skin reactions show within 15-30 minutes of inhalation or dermal application.
  • Avoid Application Of Essential Oils On Babies Of 3 Months Of Age And Below: As mentioned earlier, it is essential to consider the age of your baby before applying an essential oil. You should not use essential oils on babies of age 3 months or below as their skin is too delicate to tolerate the strong oils. Moreover, you should take into account each and every essential oil’s dermal use, before buying the same. In general, hydrosols are gentle and safer.
